Cipollone and Sekulow will have no problem responding to motions within two hours because everything they’ve written thus far has been fiction. Why start dealing with facts now?
Really, a requirement to respond within two hours is an insult to the American people. No one can properly craft a legal response with a 120-minute deadline.

Every time USA sends ANY form of “aid” & public/tax payer & debt $$ from what ever process to another nation it is consistently stolen, embezzled, used in corruption/fraud, crimes, & even kick backs to USA politicians/Congress, officials & mil indus complex etc &/or members of their extended families & others for their benefit. NONE of this serves the American people.

Allowing the Republican controlled Senate to deny the introduction of all of the evidence and direct public testimony of witnesses necessary to a full understanding of what has actually occurred is not conducive to a fair trial.
McConnel knows that by requiring the House prosecutors to present their case before they have all of the pertinent material information needed can tilt the playing field in favor of Trumps defense.
It allows room for further corruption of justice by giving the Trump defense team an opportunity to alter witness testimony, and to destroy any and all additional necessary prosecution evidence before they are forced to respond.

@Daniel Erb Granted that partisanship has clouded the issue. But an internal domestic political abuse of power is one thing. Running for political office and getting yourself elected after asking a despotic foreign leader to interfere in the election in order to gain an advantage is an entirely different matter. One is an internal matter certainly worthy of concern. The other is a matter of National Security. Which do you suppose is the more dangerous to the welfare of the Nation? Is that even questionable?

    • Daniel Erb
      January 22, 2020 @ 8:48 am

@G Pach Perhaps we disagree which is fine, however I personally find the use of the justice system (that is the special counsel and impeachment) as a political weapon far more dangerous to our country.

My reasoning is that it underpins our country and, in an ideal world, the process is what provides the protection from larger internal threats by providing a unbiased and non-partisan recourse to wrongdoing by our elected officials. I would want to be able to believe, at all times, that our due processes are intact and we have the capability to trust that when these cases are brought up that there isn’t any partisanship.

Like I said, that is my personal view. I don’t hold any ill will or negativity towards you if you feel differently. Either way I wish both sides would handle it better. The house should have taken their time and gotten their case together, then if they couldn’t gather certain evidence go to the senate and ask for assistance prior or ask if the senate could assist in getting that evidence during trial. Likewise the Senate should have taken it as a serious matter and allow the appropriate amount of time go through the full process. That way the people would know the truth, either way. Then with the truth ensure that the law is followed.

Granted I know that is basically a pipe dream, still my viewpoint though.

@Doran Vee I know that Executive Privilege does not extend to protection from abuse of power or criminal malfeasance. I also know that Congress is delegated control of the Impeachment process, and not the Courts. Think about it. If the Congress was forced to seek Court authorization or ruling on claims of executive privilege every time a POTUS overstepped their legal boundaries, the balance of powers would be impaired. In fact, it would be rendered moot on its’ face. Any POTUS could then use the Court to delay Impeachment, and in effect, our Nation would become a monarchy or a dictatorship. Once our Congress does decide to impeach, it is the lawful duty of the Senate to hear the necessary information. Impeachment does not operate on the same mechanics as normal trials. We entrust our Senators to pursue the facts necessary to protect the welfare of the public at large.

@Daniel Erb Actually, isn’t that what the House is now doing? Asking the Senate to fill in the necessary blanks? We are not so far apart my friend. I am also a political centralist. I would be banging on the Dems too if they were pulling this garbage.

  9. Chiefkyle
    January 22, 2020 @ 7:01 am

The House rushed to impeach the president WITHOUT evidence, now they are asking the Senate to do their job for them. It’s like rushing to to indict a defendant without facts, then asking the trial court to issue subpoenas. Discovery is to happen BEFORE trial, not during.

The House impeached the president and closed the hearing.
The Senate must hear the evidence from the House’s conclusions.
But the house now wants to debate more evidence, which it refused to hear in Congress.
The Senate says: NO – get on with it and present your evidence, so that we can go to the vote.
Congress is unhappy that Senate will not play its game – throws its toys out of the cot…

These rules that they have to sit there and listen and not allowed to use phones are great.
This should always be the case in the Senate and the House. Period
Under these rules, voting is also much more disciplined

NB: One does not to be a lawyer to understand that the House FAILED to call witnesses and also failed to Soepena them via the 3rd. branch, the judiciary branch. The Demonrats knew, they never would win against POTUS and his constitutional privileges.
NOW, they would like to push the Senate to do their work. No way!
PS: Most of us know already that in the end when they lost after spending millions of US taxpayer money they will call it a cover-up.
Prophesy: In November 2020 President Trump will be re-elected alongside a good majority in the House and Senate. Amen
May God has Mercy with America and its Citizens.

What’s the big deal if President Trump wanted to withhold American taxes from Ukraine because he perceived that there was rampant corruption in Ukraine. Isn’t that why we elected him in the first place? Trump needs to root out American corruption. In Ukraine. We certainly don’t want fake, outraged, triggered democrats impeaching the president for political sport and to stop corruption being uncovered. This process is a vile misuse of power by Nancy and her incompetent coup leaders.
