Gun laws won’t do anything. Criminals are not law abiding citizens. We made heroin and opiates illegal but those are still strong and killing millions. What makes you think banning guns will make criminals abide by the new laws put in place?

J W yes, but these are kids who do this, bot “criminals”. If we make it harder for them to get guns than the amount of shooting will naturally go down. Look at places like Britain or Japan. 0 school shootings when smuggling a fire arm in would probably be possible.

Explain how a high schooler got an ar-15.
Either he stole it, took it from his parents, or bought it.
If he stole it, then store security should be better for firearms.
If he took it from his parents, then his parents should have a better place to store weapons.
If he bought it, that should have been a red flag; especially since he was reported months ago.

The issue is that the most mentally unhealthy tend to avoid getting diagnosed, let alone taking a medication for it.
The sad thing is that most people choose to not get diagnosed because of the social stigma around mental health. That stigma would only increase if your mental health determined other things as well.

The love of guns comes from America’s pioneering and colony days. Back then the only law was vigilantism, and the only military was small militias.
The reason for the second ammendment no longer exists; it’s a relic from the past that people unwaveringly support.

There are 30,000 gun related deaths per year by firearms, and this number is not disputed. U.S. population 324,059,091 as of Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Do the math: 0.000000925% of the population dies from gun related actions each year. Statistically speaking, this is insignificant! What is never told, however, is a breakdown of those 30,000 deaths, to put them in perspective as compared to other causes of death:

    • 65% of those deaths are by suicide which would never be prevented by gun laws
    • 15% are by law enforcement in the line of duty and justified
    • 17% are through criminal activity, gang and drug related or mentally ill persons – gun violence
    • 3% are accidental discharge deaths

So technically, “gun violence” is not 30,000 annually, but drops to 5,100. Still too many? Well, first, how are those deaths spanned across the nation?
    • 480 homicides (9.4%) were in Chicago
    • 344 homicides (6.7%) were in Baltimore
    • 333 homicides (6.5%) were in Detroit
    • 119 homicides (2.3%) were in Washington D.C. (a 54% increase over prior years)

So basically, 25% of all gun crime happens in just 4 cities. All 4 of those cities have strict gun laws, so it is not the lack of law that is the root cause.

This basically leaves 3,825 for the entire rest of the nation, or about 75 deaths per state. That is an average because some States have much higher rates than others. For example, California had 1,169 and Alabama had 1.

Now, who has the strictest gun laws by far? California, of course, but understand, so it is not guns causing this. It is a crime rate spawned by the number of criminal persons residing in those cities and states. So if all cities and states are not created equally, then there must be something other than the tool causing the gun deaths.

Are 5,100 deaths per year horrific? How about in comparison to other deaths? All death is sad and especially so when it is in the commission of a crime but that is the nature of crime. Robbery, death, rape, assault all is done by criminals and thinking that criminals will obey laws is ludicrous. That’s why they are criminals.

But what about other deaths each year?
    • 40,000+ die from a drug overdose–THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT!
    • 36,000 people die per year from the flu, far exceeding the criminal gun deaths
    • 34,000 people die per year in traffic fatalities(exceeding gun deaths even if you include suicide)

    Now it gets good:
    • 200,000+ people die each year (and growing) from preventable medical errors. You are safer in Chicago than when you are in a hospital!

    • 710,000 people die per year from heart disease. It’s time to stop the double cheeseburgers! So what is the point? If Obama and the anti-gun movement focused their attention on heart disease, even a 10% decrease in cardiac deaths would save twice the number of lives annually of all gun-related deaths (including suicide, law enforcement, etc.). A 10% reduction in medical errors would be 66% of the total gun deaths or 4 times the number of criminal homicides……Simple, easily preventable 10% reductions!

So you have to ask yourself, in the grand scheme of things, why the focus on guns? It’s pretty simple.:
Taking away guns gives control to governments.

The founders of this nation knew that regardless of the form of government, those in power may become corrupt and seek to rule as the British did by trying to disarm the populace of the colonies. It is not difficult to understand that a disarmed populace is a controlled populace.

Thus, the second amendment was proudly and boldly included in the U.S. Constitution. It must be preserved at all costs.

So the next time someone tries to tell you that gun control is about saving lives, look at these facts and remember these words from Noah Webster: “Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed, as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword, because the whole body of the people are armed and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. A military force at the command of Congress can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power.”

Remember, when it comes to “gun control,” the important word is “control,” not “gun.”

VAMPYRE ANGELUS it is nice to see someone else who gets the bigger picture. These shootings are horrible and cost innocent people their life but most are failing to see what is really happening. 100’s or even 1000’s are killed for the sole purpose of disarming the GOOD American so they can kill millions. The 2nd Amendment states it’s purpose very well and our founding fathers understood its true purpose.

Mass shooters go to “Gun Free Zones” to commit their crimes. That wrongheaded measure has turned our schools into shooting galleries.” If only we made it even more illegal to kill, then people would stop killing” is a nutty idea. “If only we made it illegal to own any kind of gun then the killing might stop!” is a similarly nutty idea. These killers aren’t afraid to break the law. Any determined criminal can get a gun on the black market. His gun would be even more devastating against a completely disarmed, law-abiding populace.

Up until the late 60s, guns were commonly brought to school by the students. You also never heard of mass shootings at schools back then. We need more guns in the hands of the potential victims, not fewer. In fact, everyone should be armed 24/7. A well armed society is a polite society.

    • Concerned Citizen
      February 15, 2018 @ 9:02 pm

More guns means more crossfire which means more deaths. Very few people actually want to carry a gun at all times. The reason the amount of guns per capita in the U.S. is so high is because a few people own dozens of guns while most people don’t own any. Removing a gun free zone won’t increase the number of people with guns since most people choose not to carry a gun anyway. That’s generally how gun free zones get created in the first place. The populace chooses to be unarmed.

Look at the UK and Australia. They have banned guns, and their rates of homicide are much lower per capita. We shgouldn’t need to live in a society where we think a shooting spree could happen at any place at any moment.

  13. James Cooper

If it doesn’t make sense to you that I can kill more people in an hour with an AR15 than you can kill in an entire day with a knife, a rope, and a bat, then you don’t inhabit the same dimension sane people do.

There is no coherent argument in favor of the idea that we should let anyone have access to assault rifles, including children, criminals, and the mentally ill. Gun laws save lives and that’s a fact. If you are triggered by that fact then maybe you can go cry about it in a safe space somewhere.

Previous administrations have caused this by lowering the immigration protections and dropping our borders and removing our national security. IT was “on purpose” and it was “for “Globalism”, a terrible idea that has caused harm and fear, and those who bring it are evil and have proved it.

They are evil people, all of then, People like Schummer, Pelosi, The Clintons, and Bushes are evil and demented and they need to be thrown out of our country to the last man and woman. Root and Branch. Those who speak falsely, who steal, lie, and cheat have no place in our Government or our society. Those who seek to create the conditions of fear, debility, and such, who try to strip the people of their defenses to better control them, at every level from national to the neighborhood and within local governments, are criminals, and have no place in a country like ours, founded as it is upon “Rule of Law”. Let them go out of America, in the name of God they must be thrown out now, and those who have commit crimes must be caught and punished under the law. They have no place among us.

Now we must defend our families and our properties properties internally and independently until we can restore our borders and national defense. They wormed their way into our society, let them now leave, or be caught and tried fro crimes and put away.

They are an eternal enemy for us. We chased them off in 1776, Again in 1812. But we are trusting, and they infiltrated to steal, and cheat their way into our society in a third attack lasting, as it has, from the year our Constitution was signed, seeking to destroy us.

Let them be gone now from us. Amen.

I have become tired of seeing our children sacrificed upon the alter of greed and gluttony, and lust for power and control over men. Aren’t you. Let those who have committed these crimes be charged and put away, and hopefully never to return to us.
