America supporting the president is a wonderful idea (ideal), but currently we have a president who does not support America (assaulting the press, praising tyrannies, lying obsessively). Supporting the president’s policies is a nice idea (ideal), but currently we have a president with no coherent policies, only the whims of the moment. A lot of things would be nice, but currently we have a very not nice president.

“Qualified to be the CIA Director” doesn’t translate to being qualified to be head of the Department of State.

The issue with Pompeo has to do with his (1) loyalty to Trump (currently not a plus for Independents or Democrats; (2) the perception he is a war hawk and completely unskilled with the uses of Soft Power.

These two weaknesses make Pompeo is high risk candidate for the decision-making associated with a Secretary of State. Trump’s picks do not seem reflective of the skills needed to perform government tasks approved of by the citizens. Reason does not dominate or drive Trump’s choices.

Trump must pay attention to all the voices of the citizens of this nation when appointing Military or Military-aligned candidates to important civil offices, for we are the owners of the government he works for. We are his boss and we are the evaluators of his performance. He cannot assume more authority than we are willing to give him regarding how he is doing as Implementer of the Laws.

We have grave concerns over the ascendency of the Military as an unintended 4th Branch of Government under Trump.

The Military employs over 2,000,000 people and is easily the biggest employer of this nation. That costly component of the Federal government does not have a separate and devoted revenue stream to support the personnel expenditures. It does not have a permanent exclusive revenue stream to pay for the research and development of new weapons systems or for the manufacturing, upkeep and safe storage of expensive weaponry and munitions, once they are made.

Every cost of personnel and weaponry plus the explicit costs of waging war must come from the general Federal revenues collected from the people through income tax, tariffs or other taxes or be paid for by borrowing from creditors.

Money collected as general revenues must pay for everything not funded through special Trust Fund contriputions.

Unlike Medicare Part B, C and D or Social Security old age pensions, which have separate, sustained revenue streams pouring into their Trust Funds every month, the Military does not raise any money to pay for itself. The tax payers of today and tomorrow pay for all of it.

Our Military has been embroiled – often with limited success – in expensive and time consuming assymetrical wars which fold and unfold unexpectedly throughout the globe. The alternative to a constant state of war is the skillful and discerning application of Soft Power, a reality which Trump disdains.

It is not going to give any nominated person much of an approval by being seen as liked or trusted by Trump or to be known as one of the many proponents of heedless and unilateral military intervention. Yet, these are descriptions of the people Trump has drawn about him.

In our current state, Republicans should count themselves lucky to have any help at all from Democrats for Trump’s endless line of inappropriate nominations for office. Pompeo is not as qualified as some others might be, but the public won’t know his weaknesses and strengths from the McConnell led confirmation effort. We must wait for the successes or failures in the dark.

This bag of gas justifies Trump’s appointment of non-qualified candidates by noting Obama’s qualified candidates were approved? I remember one very qualified candidate being turned down out of greed and spite, Merrick Garland. I don’t remember scandal after scandal of secretaries misusing tax payer’s money during Obama’s administration. I don’t think Obama left countless positions unfilled. I also don’t remember Obama’s picks having a history of abuse, like Putzner. (misspelling intentional)

Anyone who thinks being nominated for a job to be done for Trump is delusional if they think it’s a great honor, Trump has muddied the waters too much for anyone who gets nominated to be allowed any offense slip through now. Anyone still defending Trump now is either under Trump’s payroll or delusional.

The Republican talking head is being disingenuous when talking about the Senate’s supposed obstructionism. Pompeo was approved with broad bipartisan support for CIA director, a job for which he had appropriate experience and aptitude. Being Secretary of State requires a different aptitude and Pompeo has said things that should make one question whether he’s right for the position. The Senate’s job, as per the Constitution, is to be a gatekeeper, not a rubber stamper for the president’s appointments!

Pudzner says the Senate has become politicized. What’d he expect. The Republican senators have bailed on absolutely everything in their support of Trump. Politicization is a valuable checking mechanism. Pudzner thinks he can have it both ways.

I don’t understand why at the end Stephanie did not point out that Alise is a republican. She also held a whitehouse position under bush. He was referring to her as if she a democrat.

Its not about trust and love. Trust and love is considered by many as a weakness. It is about ethics. Both sides have valid points. How can you have people in place that are qualified and have a base level of ethics? Betsy Devos is a great example of not well vetted or that other person who didn’t think global warming is actually occurring. She couldn’t even a base knowledge of tools used to measure climate and methodologies.

If the stories are not true why step down ? That makes no sense, he’s a military man, stand stand up and be county, although he was not equipped to run the VA and he knew it, Andy Puzder is as crooked as the rest of them, the fact is none of the people were not vetted and he knows it. Bringing up Hillary again !! Try something original you moron

So for the non-American here- does congress have to vote to approve candidates for all prominent jobs at the WH? (Unlike the British system whereby we simply vote a party into government and then let them decide who fills the cabinet positions from the array of members of parliament who just won their seats in the same general election.) Because if so, it seems to be inherently open to this kind of stalemate, blocking abuse. On both sides.

Wait a minute – Tillerson wasn’t hurt by Congress, how many people the Senate confirmed has Trump tormented and then fired?…..Andrew Puzner is arguing a false premise… The Senate gave us an education secretary with NO competence except the destruction of the public education system…. The Senate gave us a greedy thief to run down Enviromental Protection….indeed there is one financial scandal after another in Trump’s cabinet. It’s a band of greedy thieves. And then Trump is making the people the Senate gave him like Jeff Sessions lives miserable with attack after attack. Puzner is too stupid to be believed. Thank God he wasn’t confirmed.

Pompeo one of the most qualified people to ever serve at State????? He has no foreign relations experience. What is with these republicans??? He was not considered qualified, that was one of the reasons the FR committee had reservations.
I hate to say this, but I am wondering if Lincoln was correct in keeping the Union together. These republicans do not want to be accountable for anything, and don’t want to help with anything. They are sore losers and terrible winners. Mike Pompeo was/is UNQUALIFIED!. This guys is jaded because he is one of those who had to be dropped.

And Ron Insana is the man. I miss him from the 2-4 hours on CNBC. Love the guy.

I like how no one comment on the fact that the same guy that gave a favorable review of Trump’s health is getting a job in return. The obvious conflict of interest is appalling but it’s almost like people don’t care about conflict of interest anymore.
