What would like our president to do? Increase sanctions and make the situation worst for the people of North Korea. Or would u have Trump sacrifices more lives in another war. For now this is our best option and first step to neutralize a treat to America and its allies. If the North Korean people dislike the Kim dynasty than they should revolt.

This peace show is a political game. The south Korean regime is politically capitalizing on this show to trounce the opposition party. The current US government needs to make any tangible results to be reelected in 2020. Kim needs money right now. All conditions are matched. In the process, it is the NK defectors and SKoreans who suffer most from the show.

What she’s asking would require a paradigm shift/personality transplant for our president to look beyond the expectations of international adulation and high tv ratings, and let’s not forget $$$ to be made (Ivanka are you ready to make bank on this?) to care about that minor little thing of murder, torture, and starvation of the North Korean people.

Well since we basically have all of the nations of Asia Trump visited on our side I think freedom of their nation will occur after we denuclearize them. I don’t think you would want this to lead to war in which South Korea along w/ maybe China or Japan teams up w/ us & we just do something General MacArthur or Harry Truman would want and drop a Neutron Bomb on them (if they were alive today). This is almost like the Cuban Missile Crisis & the Berlin Wall in one. (IMO)

I have news for you. They did woo Hitler, treated him like one of them, signed many papers with him to ensure world’s peace, even let him organized Olympic Game. After all of this second war did not happened and Germany did not lost over 17% of it population.

war is not exactly an antidote to hunger and violence… i get that he’s a dictator, but let’s be practical here: diffusing the tension between north korea and the western world is beneficial for everyone involved, including the people of north korea. and nobody would suffer the consequences of an armed conflict more than them.

If this is just another repeat of Kim Jong Il meeting with the South’s president, then ultimately war will ensue if Kim is dumb enough to try to make Trump look stupid (at least while he’s in office that is and if the next president is big on “strategic patience”).

americans themselves have committed horrific human rights violations in afghanistan , iraq and carried out countless assasinations and coups .. they were the one who dropped nukes on japanese cities killings thousands of innocent civilians and you are asking the xenophobe, islamophobe , climate change denier , stupid and arrogant Trump to hold kim accountable .. Pathetic

I donot think she is right. Everybody has the chance to hug others, no matter Hitler, or Einstein. And, I think somebody manipulated this video, no doubt. Do you still remember when Iraq invaded Kuwait, American media took a video about how the Kuwait lived in a decent life, later the reality told us that somebody took that video deliberately to impact our opinions. The government can manipulate the media, but will never hide the reality.

If US wanna help. Fix their neighbour in Central and South American. Then fix North Africa and others, not to long ago they bomb that is causing the migration to EU, and help the EU not with weapons but with open decent trade around their border, which might reduce human trafficking. But first help your self back home with student, car and mortgage loan wich is more in trillion each for see where it’s going finally

This alludes to something overlooked in this situation: Americans (and their allies) don’t want true peace, they just don’t want their own safety imperiled by a foreign dictator. Americans didn’t want to intervene in Nazi Germany, either. If a dictator kills millions of his own people but doesn’t threaten anyone else, Americans don’t have a problem letting him continue unabated.
But let’s not pretend this is uniquely American. The pandemic of indifference to suffering is running rampant across the globe.

Trump doesn’t care about human rights he doesn’t even care that this same person is responsible for the death of Otto Warmbier a year ago. He now calls Kim trustworthy and honorable. Sounds like Neville Chamberland “peace in our time”.

As if she knows all about South Korea too. Our president won Nobel Peace Prize for not only peace mode w Kim Jong il but his contribution for democracy in South Korea. We just want to decrease the risk of war in South Korea and if Hitler was willing to change like Kim,our presidents would have hugged him. They are people who served for the poor in Sout Korea for years as activists and human rights lawyer. What have u done for South Korea’s peace except for criticizing the peace mode in my land? If u wanna work for North Korean human rights, fine but dont bring down us. Anyway u hold South Korean passport too.

Wait a minute, people are mad when trump is firm with Kim, and then they are mad when he’s peaceful with him, but what is it that we really should do? I’m not a trump supporter, but I am a bit confused at the NYT’s stance is because it seems to be constantly shifting.

Mao Zedong was bigger murderer even worse than Hitler. US made a deal with PRC. This allowed them to win Cold War and China to become second superpower. Both sides won. Sometimes it’s better to talk even with devil. If NK become more open, the regime will fall.
