Yes, I’ve consistently been amazed at so many Trump supporters who don’t don’t seem to realize how tariffs work and who believe, somehow, that other countries are paying the tariffs for their goods coming into the U.S. Then again, Trump often is heard saying that the country is making billions of dollars from these tariffs, so either he doesn’t understand how they work or is just lying as usual.

Anna Draper are you for real?! OMG! There’s so much wrong with what you just said. He’s not doing this all by himself. He has the best of the best working WITH him to FIX our country, to fix the bad trade deals. Trump is actually working FOR us. He’s being tough. He took on China to get a better trade deal, something no other president has ever done.

+Laurie Robinson our country wasn’t broken, trump unlike President Obama inherited a booming economy. Trump is still riding Obama’s economy, you know so little about the stock market, job losses, foreign affairs, diplomacy and the economy of the country it’s embarrassing.

+Anna Draper It’s like Scump’s base, as Scump himself, have no economic training at all. A little business savvy is not economics. And that assumption was only for the sake of argument. I highly doubt that they have any business smarts at all.

Tariffs helped make America rich in the first 150 years of its existence. But times have changed. Nowadays, countries are much more reliant on each other’s economies. This is why we don’t have constant wars like we used to. Wars used to make countries rich. Now it makes them poor. Usually.

But Trump has moved past the 60s/ 70s when domestic production and tariffs propped up the economy.
Just have a look at the separation of productivity Vs hourly pay. The divergence started roughly 1974.

Dude, pay attention! The topic is tariffs and is America getting rich because of it. If you mean getting rich off the backs of American then sure, America is getting rich and the rich are getting richer and the rest of us are getting poor.

They take jobs away? You mean the jobs that have been lost because of trumps tariffs? So, can you tell me how tariffs help liberal media profit? Can you tell me how tariffs help special interest groups profit? Many tell me what special interest groups you are talking about. More then likely you cannot answer any of my questions because you have not idea and pick out word you found in conspiracy sites. Kind of typical!

Wait in till it makes full circle. It becomes more Cost effective to make the products in house and not even buy from China. I’m surprised you can’t figure that out. Where at least report on it.

    What’s the purpose of tariffs?
And what purpose did the president expect from placing those tariffs to begin with?

    • MrDJViciousDelicious
      December 14, 2018 @ 3:36 am

The Platinum Tugboat many countries have trade barriers from the US in order to encourage their domestic products and avoid importing too much, the US often does not have the same barriers and the tariffs were a way to level the playing field.

Some of the big ones were dairy between US and Canada. We buy their good without taxing it meanwhile they had a 300% tax on US dairy which prevented farms in the north from trading. There were loads of products like that and still are which is why it’s important the US keep the pressure on its partners to try to make the market more fair.

This video didn’t grab much of the story except the part it was intended to serve. The US has a lot of leverage when it comes to trade and if the consumer really did end up paying for the tariffs then we would just buy from another import or domestic competition would grab market share (this happens in every other country)

+MrDJViciousDelicious hey thanks for replying. I see why they didn’t go too far into explaining what tariffs are to begin with, considering it wasn’t the main focus of the video.
You explained it really clearly for me, and I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I’ll continue looking up more about the subject.
Thanks again, and have a good rest of your morning/afternoon/night

Think about this, our tariffs are for good coming into our country, so a cell phone or whatever coming into america has a tariff. The country and the company it comes from is still selling it at the same price, but it cost use more. Now what we sell to china we sell for the same price, but china has a tariff on our stuff. So stuff going to china is not selling as much because it is more expensive to buy. Same for stuff coming into America. China is selling for the same price but because of the tariff we are paying more. What is interesting is the trump trinkets and clothes do not have a tariff on them.

    • doomableful
      December 13, 2018 @ 6:47 pm

we pay for it, but because of tariffs we buy less of it. american companies raise retail prices on their products and buy less, for example coca cola just raised the price on coke because of the tariffs they have to pay on aluminum, which will likely result in less consumption. less consumption, less imported aluminum coca cola buys. which hurts the countries that are exporting aluminum to the U. S. it does not directly make the U. S. more money. When china placed retaliatory tariffs on american grain and farm products, chinese
industries chose to buy from other sources, leaving the american farm industry struggling to export their product. so the U. S. government wrote american farmers a big fat 12 billion dollar WELFARE check.

Exactly, and thus trump lies again….. or is just dumb about tariffs. Plus, like you said they will go to other countries for what they and we lose. Back in the day, maybe tariffs were good as an option…… not any more!

      December 14, 2018 @ 5:34 am

Luke37 because stupid some people can’t afford the higher price and the tariffs can lead to a world depression and that wouldn’t be too good for uneducated, financially poor you. Super rich will still be super rich

Substitute ” fight for 15″ with “Tariffs” both are passing on cost to end consumers. Expect w tariffs you actually make it more attractive to keep jobs in the US.
